Admissions Procedure
GENERAL INFORMATION
Girls are admitted to Queen Margaret's School on the basis of their academic ability and potential to benefit from and contribute to boarding education and the many opportunities it offers. Admission is competitive with scholarships available for outstanding candidates. The school is designated as having an Anglican religious character but girls from all denominations are welcome and indeed attend.
Every effort is made to ensure that there is equality of opportunity to enter and achieve.

THE ENTRANCE EXAMINATION
We set our own Entrance Examination papers which are normally taken in the Spring of the year of entry. It is expected that candidates will to come to the school for a single day of examinations and interviews. Examinations for entry at 11+ are held at the end of January and for entry at 12+ and 13+ in late February or early March. In all cases candidates will be tested in English, Mathematics, Science and Verbal Reasoning. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of these Examinations.
Girls living abroad can sit the Examination either at their school or at an approved centre. Candidates for Sixth Form entry are judged on their GCSE (or equivalent) predictions and interview; special papers in at least two subjects are set for scholarship candidates. In all cases great attention is paid to school reports.
ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships are awarded to outstanding candidates at 11+, 12+, 13+ and Sixth Form. Some are open to internal candidates. The Alison Small Scholarship is reserved for entrants from the maintained sector.
MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS
Auditions are normally held in February for entry at 11+, 12+, or 13+ in the coming September. Occasionally, outstanding candidates are considered for Sixth Form Music Scholarships. Further details are available from the Director of Music.
ART SCHOLARSHIPS
Art Scholarships, which may also be awarded to internal candidates, are normally only available at 13+. An Art Scholarship Day is held in March.
ALL-ROUNDER SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships may be available for girls of high academic achievement who also have ability in games, music, drama or art and who do not otherwise qualify for a scholarship.
